Previously serving as senior vice‑president and lead scientist for Alexa and Amazon’s artificial general intelligence initiatives, Prasad is tasked with accelerating Boston Dynamics’ physical‑AI roadmap. The firm notes his expertise will fuse robotic hardware with cutting‑edge AI to scale commercial deployment of intelligent machines.

“Boston Dynamics holds a distinctive edge in advancing physical AI, built on its world‑renowned robotics engineering talent,” Prasad commented in an official press release. “I’m privileged to join the business at this defining turning point for the whole sector. By merging state‑of‑the‑art AI and robotics capabilities, we can deliver intelligent systems that generate tangible real‑world value, extend robotics adoption across diverse verticals, and chart the next chapter for physical‑AI technology.”

Prasad outlined his objective to bring market‑ready intelligent robotic systems to industrial and commercial sites, boosting workplace safety, output and operational efficiency. His appointment to Boston Dynamics’ board of directors is pending formal approval.

Across his 12‑year tenure at Amazon, Prasad was instrumental in growing Alexa from an early‑stage prototype into a mass‑market consumer‑AI platform deployed in hundreds of millions of households globally. Most recently, he headed development work on Amazon’s Nova suite of enterprise‑focused foundation models. Prior to Amazon, he spent close to 14 years at Raytheon BBN Technologies, where he guided machine‑learning research and rolled out ML‑powered solutions for both government and commercial clients.

Prasad becomes Boston Dynamics’ third chief executive in the firm’s history. Founder Marc Raibert led as CEO from the company’s founding in 1992 up until 2020.

“Boston Dynamics’ industry‑leading robotics portfolio, Rohit’s proven track record of scaling AI‑powered products worldwide, together with Hyundai Motor Group’s robust manufacturing, logistics and mobility resources create a formidable foundation for scaling physical‑AI solutions,” said Jaehoon Chang, Hyundai Vice Chair and Chairman of Boston Dynamics’ Board of Directors. “We are thrilled to welcome Rohit as our new leader to steer the company through this promising new phase of real‑world physical‑AI development.”

Hyundai Motor Group secured majority ownership of Boston Dynamics from SoftBank Group back in 2021.
